‘Balein’ to be screened at Berlin Kurdish filmfest

Iranian short film ‘Balein’ is slated to vie at the Berlin Kurdish Film Festival in Germany.

The 15th edition of the festival is to host the film directed by Asghar Laei at the main competition section.

“‘Balein’ addresses common human pains; a border-residing family mourns the death of their mother, and the mother's body is not allowed to be buried for reasons, this reveals the commonalities of the people involved,” the synopsis of the film reads.

Prior to this presence, ‘Balein’ was also screened at the Tehran International Short Film Festival and the Fajr Film Festival.

The Berlin Kurdish Film Festival brings together different cultures and gives room to artistic exchanges. According to the official website of the fest, it, “reflects the diversity of Kurdish society as well as Kurdish filmmaking and encourages exchange”.

The 11th edition of the event is slated for October 14-20, 2021.
